Strive, Achieve, Excel; Believe in a Limitless Future.
As a school we have evaluated the gaps in learning for Geography dues to lockdowns and Covid. Please see below for the gaps in PSHE coverage:
Year 6 – Term 3 – Dreams and Goals: our personal learning goals; our dreams for the world; helping make a difference.
Year 5 – Term 2 – Celebrating Differences: respecting different cultures; identifying racism; types of bullying. Term 3 – Dreams and Goals: my dream career; how can I achieve my goals?
Year 4 – Term 3 – Dreams and Goals: my hopes and dreams; broken hopes and dreams and overcoming disappointment; new dreams.
Year 3 – Term 3 – Dreams and Goals: admiring the achievements of others; breaking my own goals down into steps; managing feelings of frustration.
Year 2 – Term 3 – Dreams and Goals: recognising my own achievements; exploring my different learning styles; working in a group to solve problems.
Year 1 – Term 3 – Dreams and Goals: talking about what I do well; exploring the emotions I feel when I come across a new challenge; thinking about how I learn best.
These gaps have been identified and will be covered as part of International Week or are already in the subsequent year’s curriculum, therefore ensuring that all the necessary components are in place for future learning.
The Jigsaw scheme for PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education) and RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) is a comprehensive program designed to support children’s emotional, social, and physical development from nursery through primary school. It integrates key themes such as emotional literacy, resilience, and mental health, while fostering a sense of identity and self-worth. The curriculum is structured into six half-termly units, or "Puzzles," which include topics like "Being Me in My World," "Celebrating Difference," and "Healthy Me." Each year group explores these themes at an age-appropriate level, ensuring progression and continuity. Mindfulness is a core element, helping children manage their emotions and develop self-awareness. The program also emphasises inclusivity and equips children with the knowledge and skills to build healthy relationships, understand diversity, and navigate the challenges of an ever-changing world. Through engaging lessons and a whole-school approach, Jigsaw aims to nurture well-rounded, confident, and responsible individuals.
In the Jigsaw scheme, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is taught with sensitivity and age-appropriate content, aiming to equip children with the knowledge and skills to form healthy relationships, understand their bodies, and navigate growing up. Lessons cover topics such as friendships, families, personal safety, and emotional wellbeing, with childbirth and conception taught in Term 6. Parents have the right to withdraw their child(ren) from lessons covering childbirth and conception if they wish, and the process for this is outlined in the school's RSE policy. Ahead of Term 6, when RSE is delivered, parents will receive a detailed letter explaining the curriculum, offering transparency and ensuring they are informed about the content and their options. This collaborative approach aims to ensure RSE aligns with the values of both the school and families while preparing children for their future.
Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)
Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is learning about the emotional, social and physical aspects of growing up, relationships, sex, human sexuality and sexual health.
At Lainesmead, we believe SRE should equip our children and young people with the information, skills and values to have lifelong safe, fulfilling and respectful relationships and to take responsibility for their sexual health and well-being.
