The nursery benefits from being inside the main school building and boundaries. The nursery is self-contained and has its own outside learning area where children have access to grounds and woodland areas. The nursery is self-contained and can only be accessed by authorised persons. The outside area is securely fenced on all sides and away from any public areas. In front of the nursery building there are benches and tables next to a grassed and wooded area for parents and carers to use.

The Nursery has a large bright and open plan learning space. The school was supported by the nationally renowned Early Excellence Centre for Inspirational Learning. This organisation is known to be national leader of pedagogy, provision and practice, specialising in young children’s education. They champion the development of inspirational learning and teaching and offer expert advice, support and training to schools. With their support, we have created an inspirational learning environment which is designed to nurture children’s independence. Both indoor and outdoor resources are of extremely high quality in order to open up new possibilities for learning. The equipment includes: water resources, wet sand, role play and real life, constructions resources, storage and many, many more.

There is an electronic smart board for interactive learning, a kitchen area with cupboards, worktops at nursery child height and non-slip waterproof flooring for painting and cooking activities, a cosy reading corner and bespoke nursery toilets with baby changing facilities. Children are encourage to make their own choices about the activities they do having free access from the nursery to an exceptional outside space which has both hard surfacing for all weather play, grassed areas, trees and bushes and an external canopy providing 27 square metres of outside covered space to allow outside learning all year round.

At Lainesmead Nursery children take part in play every single day. Much of this play may take place in the outdoor area. Research shows that children use five times as many words when they play outdoors compared to indoors. There really is nothing like the freedom of playing outdoors to improve children’s physical and sensory development and their imaginations, not to mention the fun factor! Outside activities help them to develop an active lifestyle, an appreciation of nature and the environment and to develop social skills.

The nursery is educationally based and lead by the Early Years Foundation Stage Leader, they are supported by seven additional staff, including a deputy who holds Early Years Teacher Status and a Post Graduate Certificate in Early Years Practice and Learning.

All staff have high expectations of what each child can achieve, including the most able and most disadvantaged being highly responsive to children’s needs. Focus is especially placed on teaching children to acquire communication and language skills. Staff use their expert knowledge of the areas of learning to provide rich, varied and imaginative experiences that enthuse, engage and motivate children to learn using an exceptional range of resources and activities.

Overall our nursery objectives are to help and support children with their physical, personal, social and emotional development, giving them the best possible start and foundation for future learning.
