Music

Ethos and Beliefs

At Lainesmead Primary, we believe that all children should have access to good quality music education and singing every week. We believe that music is a truly inclusive subject that transcends economic and academic boundaries and that is a huge benefit on the wellbeing of our children.

Our aims include

  • A consistent and well-balanced approach to music education across the school.
  • To ensure that all children perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians.
  • To ensure that all children learn to sing and use their own voices to create music in unison and ensemble with others and have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument and read notation.
  • To ensure all children understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including though the interrelated dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate notations

As a school we have evaluated the gaps in learning for Music due to lockdowns and Covid.

These gaps have been identified and will continue to be covered through singing assemblies or are already within the subsequent year’s curriculum; therefore, ensuring that all the necessary components are in place for future learning.

Choir Club

This term we have been singing songs chosen by Swindon Schools Music Service to perform with other schools at 'The Wyvern.' Unfortunately the performance was unable to go ahead so we performed our songs 'live' to parents via Facebook. If you would like to take a listen, please visithttps://youtu.be/GB16-kjoaFQ

On 16th November we performed a medley of Christmas songs at The Wyvern Theatre. The children loved every minute of being on the stage and especially loved it when the snow fell! Well done for your hard work!
