Lainesmead Primary School and Nursery

Strive, Achieve, Excel; Believe in a Limitless Future.

Curriculum Overview

The curriculum is what children learn in school. Pupils follow a curriculum based on the National Curriculum to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of the world. This includes: English, Mathematics, Science, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Art, Design Technology, Geography, History, Music, Physical Education, Religious Education and Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE). Pupils in years 3 to 6 also learn to communicate in French. Lainesmead has a thematic approach to the whole curriculum whole-school topics which are weaved together to suit the needs and reflect the diversity and multi-cultural nature of the school.

To reflect this many countries our children represent, all classes are named with places from around the World, with the children going on a journey from their home town in Nursery through to the other side of the world in Year 6. The children learn about their new country during Move Up week, held each year on the last week of the summer term. This enables us to take a global approach to education and the children’s learning, helping them to see what life is like for other people in other countries.

It is our belief, that every individual has the potential to do well in school. We are fully committed to making sure that every child makes the most of their abilities, achieving the very highest standard of which they are capable. We have a strong and experienced team of teachers and teaching assistants who ensure all pupils’ needs are met. We want our pupils to develop self-confidence, positive attitudes, resilience and expressive skills, with a love for learning that will prepare them very well for their future educational experiences and their role in society as adults.
