Welcome to Lainesmead Primary School and Nursery

As Headteacher of Lainesmead Primary School and Nursery, I am proud to welcome you to our vibrant, diverse and forward-thinking community. At Lainesmead, our vision of “Strive, Achieve, Excel: Believe in a Limitless Future” sits at the heart of everything we do, guiding both our aspirations for the children and the way we work together as a school family.

At Lainesmead, we believe in developing the whole child — socially, emotionally and academically. Our dedicated staff inspire children to discover a passion for lifelong learning, ensuring that every day is memorable, purposeful and enjoyable. We work closely with families and the wider community to foster a strong sense of belonging and a positive, inclusive school culture where children feel valued and understood.

Our curriculum is rooted in reading, promoting a love of stories, poetry, language and books. This strong foundation supports a broad and balanced curriculum that is inspiring, relevant and reflective of the diversity within our school community. We encourage our pupils to question, think deeply and develop ambition, preparing them for their future with confidence, curiosity and resilience.

Securing positive relationships is central to achieving our vision. We are a trauma-informed school and proud to be recognised as a Thrive School of Excellence, placing social, emotional and mental wellbeing at the heart of learning. Staff are trained to understand children’s emotional development and the reasons behind behaviour, enabling us to provide the right support at the right time. Alongside this nurturing approach, we maintain high expectations for behaviour and learning, using calm, consistent and restorative practices to help children reflect, take responsibility and learn from mistakes.

In recognition of our work in this area, Lainesmead was awarded Thrive School of Excellence status and received an Area of Excellence through Challenge Partners for creating an embedded school culture rooted in the importance of social, emotional and mental health. These approaches ensure that children feel safe, supported and ready to learn.

We also value the importance of play and outdoor learning, recognising its vital role in children’s wellbeing, friendships and personal development. Opportunities for active, creative play form an important part of school life, supporting confidence, cooperation and resilience.

Our pupils are encouraged to play an active role in school life, whether as Play Leaders, Learning Ambassadors, members of the School Parliament or Prefects. Through these opportunities, children develop leadership skills, responsibility and a strong sense of contribution and pride in their school.

Safeguarding and pupil wellbeing are our highest priorities. All staff are trained to ensure children feel safe, listened to and cared for, and we work closely with families to support every child’s needs. We are committed to inclusion and work in partnership with parents to ensure that all children, including those with additional needs, are supported to thrive and succeed.

I hope that this website provides you with the information you need and supports your decision to choose Lainesmead Primary School and Nursery as the ideal place to educate your child. If you have any further questions or would like to arrange a visit, please do not hesitate to contact us.

I look forward to welcoming you and your family to our Lainesmead community.
