OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning)
Lainesmead Primary and Nursery School is proud to be an OPAL school. OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) is our whole‑school approach to transforming playtimes and giving children richer, more meaningful experiences outdoors.
We choose to be an OPAL school because we believe play is a vital part of children’s development, helping them build confidence, creativity, problem‑solving skills and strong friendships. Through OPAL, children have access to a wide range of open‑ended activities such as den building, water play, construction, imaginative play and quiet spaces, allowing them to choose how they want to play and explore.
This approach supports their physical and emotional wellbeing, encourages independence and teamwork, and makes playtimes happier, calmer and more enjoyable for everyone. OPAL helps us make the most of our outdoor spaces so that every child, every day, can enjoy high‑quality play that supports their learning and development.
