Lainesmead Primary School and Nursery

Strive, Achieve, Excel; Believe in a Limitless Future.

Religion and Worldviews (R&W)

At Lainesmead Primary and Nursery School, we believe that Religion and Worldviews (R&W) is an essential part of our pupils’ development, fostering a deeper understanding of themselves, others and the world around them. We are committed to providing an inclusive and open learning environment guided by our values of compassion, respect, curiosity and responsibility. We strive to create an environment where all pupils feel respected and valued, regardless of their religious or non-religious backgrounds.

Curriculum Intent

Rooted in the Swindon Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education (2022–2027), our Religion and Worldviews (R&W) curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, empathy, and critical thinking. It provides pupils with opportunities to explore a wide range of religious and non-religious worldviews, helping them to understand how beliefs and values influence individuals and communities.

Curriculum Implementation

Our curriculum places a strong emphasis on discussion and enquiry. Pupils are encouraged to reflect on their own lived experiences and engage with the experiences of others. Through open and honest enquiry, we help pupils appreciate the diversity of worldviews that shape our communities.

Pupils study a range of religious and non-religious worldviews, including:

  • Christianity
  • Islam
  • Hinduism
  • Judaism
  • Humanism

We recognize that everyone sees the world through their own unique lens, shaped by personal experiences, culture, and belief systems. Our curriculum encourages pupils to consider how beliefs and practices can vary not only across different religions but also within them.

Curriculum Impact

Through our Religion and Worldviews (R&W) curriculum, pupils develop a deeper awareness of the beliefs, values, and traditions that shape our world and the diversity within them. The knowledge, skills, and attitudes developed will support pupils to navigate a diverse and interconnected world.
